I decided to give the old dining room/new kitchen table a new look for it's new home in the Phillips' house. So with a little JT and Rachel Ashwell in mind, I brought shabby back. And here's how I did just that.
Here's the dining room table in it's new home in the kitchen.
I used a sanding block to lightly sand the surface and then used the Kilz oil-based primer pictured above. (When applying primer you want to keep it very light. You will actually see the wood peeking through the primer.) Once the primer was dry, I added 2 coats of Valspar acrylic paint matched to Waverly's Cafe Cream (which is the same color as the walls in the dining room - how's that for a little flow).
When the paint was dry, I got my sanding block back out and lightly rubbed the edges, legs, and a few other places on the table top to create this look.
Then I added 2 coats of polycrylic to protect the finish and make it easy to clean.
And here's the finished product!
It's my new kitchen table, my old dining room table with a new look, and it's totally bringing shabby back - and I think it just might be bringing sexy back too! I'm in love with it! I don't know what I love more - the new look- or the fact that it was FREE! I already had all of the supplies because I used them in the ongoing dining room redo. I had to put the dining room on pause to outfit the kitchen with her dining room hand-me-downs. I'll get back to it soon though- don't worry. Oh- and I'll finally be showing you how the chair makeover came out. As you can see from the pictures above, I finally finished painting them black. Check back soon to see them finished!
So, what do you think - are you going to be bringing shabby back anytime soon?! You better bring it! (Who knows what movie that line is from?)
