Bam! Boo!

It's been really sawdusty 'round these parts lately.  I know when it's all said and done our new floors are going to be gorgeous!  I honestly can't wait!  We basically figured that since we had to replace the kitchen floor that we would go ahead and rip out the white carpet (that we haven't already kicked to the curb) that we've despised since move-in day and get it all done at the same time.  This was not our original plan.  We had been saving our pennies to put a roof over our deck and screen it in because we've both always dreamed of having a great outdoor room that we could use throughout the year.  Well, the water issue in the kitchen sort of made us change plans.  Dream diverted, I guess.  Because of this decision to put down new floors, we were free to choose anything we wanted without having to think about matching the small amount of existing wood in the entry foyer.  So the entry foyer, the office, the dining room, the kitchen, and the family room will all have the same flooring!  I think it's really going to give the house a nice flow from room to room, whereas now with all the different floors things feel a bit chopped up.

We decided on Morning Star Bamboo Flooring.  We knew we wanted hardwood floors and going with an eco-friendly choice just seemed like a no-brainer for us.  How does it compare to traditional hardwood price wise?  We have no idea.  We didn't even check the difference because (not that we're the greenest peeps in the world) we felt really strongly about the whole save the trees thing.

While the particular type of bamboo we selected has had most of our family members crying, "No, don't do this!", we couldn't be happier with our decision.  We've chosen a very dark (almost black) flooring.  We like dark floors.  We've heard all the pros and cons (mainly cons) on why a dark floor is not a good choice - shows dirt, dust, scuff marks more easily/ hard to keep clean/ blah, blah, blah.  We don't care.  We plan to live here for a looooonnnnngggg time.  Of course, plans can change :)   You know we're movers and shakers at heart!  We chose the dark floor because we don't just like it we love it, and I'm kind of a swiffer queen so I'm not scared of the upkeep.  All in all, you have to go with your gut sometimes, and choose what you love!

Morning Star uses mature bamboo that's been growing for at least four years, so it's had more time to harden; and they finish their flooring with a seven-coat process to make it tough as nails (their words not mine)!  Add that to their 30 year warranty and we were totally on board!  As far as the dark color we chose, well, I ain't scared of no dust :)  - or ghosts for that matter in case you were wondering :)

Hopefully, next week I'll have some progress pics.  And then I'll reveal the actual name of the floor we chose.

This weekend I'll be rolling around on our partially finished new floors pinching myself in disbelief and taking breaks from that to watch me some basketball!  Go CATS!  Sorry for your loss Duke (not!)!  Have a great weekend!

P.S.  I am not affiliated with Morning Star Bamboo Flooring in any way.  They did not pay me to write this post.  However, if they'd like to be affiliated with me, I'd totally be down with that ;)   Seriously, call me!

  5. We at The 2 Seasons passed an award on to you that was given to us by The Polo House. It is for blogs with less than 300 followers. I have been following and enjoying your blog, and so, you were one of my two picks. Jordan, the other half of our blog, selected two others to include. I think the ladies who started it would like for it to continue on. Maybe you can stop by and read about it. It is a tool to increase readership.

  7. Great choice! I learned all about Bamboo last quarter in my class...isn't it awesome that it grows back in such a short amount of time?! Only thing to improve it's sustainability would be to start growing it here so we don't have to shop it! Can't wait to see them!

  9. Just new to your blog, loving it!!! Now that you have had this bamboo floor for awhile, how has it held up? Was the upkeep of a dark floor better or worse than you expected? I really want to restain my oak floors dark, however I have heard many negatives about it showing every bit of dirt, dust etc. I have 2 Bichon dogs. Thanks if you reply !!
