There was a big, empty brick wall in the patio area that was screaming, "Please hang something/anything on me!" So, that's just what I did. First I raided my craft closet, otherwise known as the holding place for housewares that have yet to find a home. I found this clock that I've played around with in different rooms inside the house. It never quite fit in so it ended up collecting dust in the craft closet.
It was just the right size. It just needed a little paint intervention. I mixed white outdoor paint by DecoArt with water and washed it over the surface with a sponge brush.
Then I added a little grey paint (Valspar graphite - exterior latex - same color as our shutters and potting bench) in areas. With a small paint brush and dark blue color (Valspar basin blue - exterior latex - front door color), I highlighted the clock's embossed design.
| I don't know why the brick looks so different here? I guess it depends on the lighting and angle of the photo? |
It didn't have a battery in it when I pulled it out of the craft closet. I thought about putting one in, but it cracked me up so much that the time stopped at five o'clock. I decided to leave it battery-less for now. Something about it just makes me smile.
This brick wall stays protected when it rains so this clock does just fine outdoors. The candle-chandy I picked up last fall at Tuesday morning for $19.99! It's off center - oh well. It doesn't have to be perfect to make me happy. It's so pretty all lit up at night. I use the citronella candles from Pier 1, which helps with the mosquitoes.
So, while it might be time to send the kiddies back to school, it's always time for fun on the Phillip's patio! Are you holding on to what's left of your summer? Anyone else have a collection of "haven't found a home yet" housewares in their

Great idea, Carmel, and a quick fix for your lonely wall! (love the brick walled patio - so warm & perfect for reading/relaxing). Yes we are in back-to-school/school supplies mode too, although we still have a month or so left where did the summer go?!
ReplyDeletefab furniture for the outdoors too... i am redoing my sunroom. hard to find the perfect set of wicker. pillows are amazing as well. great choices!
ReplyDeletethe clock is lovely, but i am just loving the entire set up out there. i could sit there and sip my wine and be a happy girl.
ReplyDeleteI totally have a collection of unused housewares. It now lives in the attic. To be fair - with us moving every couple of years (military), it just isn't practical to throw out items that don't fit in our current house. It is a constant struggle to assess whether to keep something or donate it.
ReplyDeleteI love your patio area!! So charming and cozy. The clock fits in perfectly!!!
ReplyDeleteOhh great paint job on the clock. I think any problem can be solved with paint. Decor problems that is :-)
