Everyone sends something different. Lots of people do photo cards. Some cards are funny and some are sweet. Regardless, they make me smile. The idea that this tradition has been around forever warms my heart. In an age where people are now reading novels on a hand held computer screen (cringe) and sending birthday wishes via facebook, twitter, or text message; I'm really glad that we still take the time to order/buy, address, and send out a Christmas card. I hope that tradition continues for many, many years to come.
Because I love them so much, I like to display them. Last year I used a couple of apothecary jars on a side table. I liked that look, but this year I wanted to ensure that every card gets some face time. I strung up a little crochet chain that I made with 2 different yarns and some twine (if you want to learn how to make a crochet chain go here -it's easy I promise) with some clothespins on one of my kitchen windows.
This is so simple and easy!
I have yet to receive any cards just yet, so I hung up a few Santa pics from previous years.
You can all rest assured that I stopped the torture last year. No more Santa pics for the Phillips kids, so everyone can breath easy now. ;)
There are lots of other creative ways to display your cards. Here are a few ideas that I really love!
This last idea is from Cassie at Hi Sugarplum! and it's a great way to add some holiday cheer to your kitchen!
So what do you do with your Christmas cards? Anyone else get giddy when they see the mail man in their neighborhood?

*P.S. Dear Kindle and Nook readers - don't be mad - I still love you! I'm just never giving up my books. It's a personal choice that every reading lover has to make. ;)

i love these displays! and even though it wasn't there you gave me an idea! i have an old window with no glass that is perfect for card display!
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas...I always put mine in a container, looks like I need to get them out and display them...You idea is a wonderful one and I really like the garland with the cards attached on the stair railing too! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOk, you've inspired me too - love your idea in the kitchen! I'm embarrassed to say mine get piled in a basket...until now!

I'm not giving up my books either! THese are some great inspiration images. Oh, did I tell you that I love your new profile pic? Well I do!
ReplyDeleteI think I'll hang mine from thick ribbon on the pantry door! This is our first Christmas in our new home so I've been wondering where to hang them. In our old home, space was tight, so I'd just wrap them in a pretty ribbon in a pile. Now we have more room and I cannot wait to display the cards :)
ReplyDeleteI was all excited to see the ideas bc I was trying to think of something for this...and surprise, there's my kitchen! thanks for the love, and great ideas, too!
ReplyDeleteLOL!! About the readers!!! I thought I felt the same way. I am an avid reader. In the past 18 months I've read 136 books--I counted the other day because I donate them to the library. Well my husband bought me a reader for my birthday. I was ho hum about the whole thing. UNTIL!!!!! I started using it. I have a Kindle. It's just a reader. I adore it. I highlight. Passages and take notes type my thoughts down when it strikes me. I have three children and going to the bookstore became an ordeal. Now I can pursue the books I want to read at my leisure. My Kindle is the 3G. I don't need to hook up to a computer. Almost all the classics are free. I am so happy with it.
ReplyDeleteOnly drawback. I have a secret! I like to read the last page of a book first. Well the Kindle makes that a bit difficult. So Ive had to break the habit :(
Love the Santa fur idea. It's super cute!
