I'm a big fan of words. Words are powerful. When I heard that Layla was having a word of the year party I knew I wanted to join in the fun, but then I was stumped. I mean, I like words, emphasis on the "s" - as in plural. I tend to be wordy mc-wordy, so coming up with just one word was practically impossible. I almost decided not to come to the party!
Then one day I was sitting in my hubs office talking to him about some changes I want to make in that room when it hit me. It was literally hanging on the wall right before my eyes.
This was written by my son last year in first grade. He's a big time second grader this year, but he still has a heart of gold! I loved this so much that I put it in a frame. What a great dream from the mind and heart of a 6 year old for everyone to have enofe of evreything they need. I love the misspelled words. Especially the word enofe. I'm making that my word of the year.
I've been blessed with more than enofe of what I need, and I want to spend more time helping those who don't have enofe. At the end of every day I want to be able to say - I did my best today and it was enofe.
Sometimes as a stay-at-home mom I second guess myself. I want to stop thinking that way and know.......
I want to strive for true gratefulness in my life because.......
I want to stop comparing myself to others or the idea in my head of what I think I should be; and embrace this.......
I want to say goodbye to pizza night because this is so not right.
That one is going to be really hard! HA!
Last but not least I want to never lose sight of what is really important in life because......
So there you go thanks to my son I was able to choose just one word. Enofe. Enough. Now that he's a big time second grader he knows how to spell those words - enofe and evreything - correctly. Although to be honest I like his version of enough better. Enofe said.

ReplyDeleteI've been thinking a lot about "mindfulness". To appreciate NOW and the blessings that are given to me now, not focus on the imperfection. Mindfulness for today, not regret for the past nor fear for the future nor longing for either. Just gratitude and contentment in the present. So I think that ENOFE is best companion word.

I love this. You are enofe. And I think that is a great word for your 2012. How sweet of your little first grader (at the time) to write that for what he was dreaming of? I read on Cassie's blog Primitive and Proper about the link up that Layla was doing. Cassie's word was choose. It really had an impact on me--and for 2012, that is what I am rolling with too. I choose to be better. I choose God first. I choose my family second. I choose to put good nutrition foods in my body (and probably a few white chocolate covered oreos too-haha). :) Great post.

I ADORE this post and I think you need to frame Collin's work and hang in a place for you to have a constant reminder. I love the meaning and the insight of this one word..especially coming from a 2nd grader. As for me...I am clueless as to which word I would use. I have so many things going on this year..finding one to define it all would be intense. Any thoughts?

I love it! I'm a big fan of the inventive spelling stage too. I'm a little sad that my 3rd grader is outgrowing it but happy because my kindergartener is just beginning. And that's enofe for me. :)
