Sounds fun right?! Every Tuesday for the next 3 weeks I'll have to incorporate the color I've chosen in the following ways - 1. home decor, 2. paint, and 3. fabric. The most fun part of the whole thing is that the last Tuesday of the challenge (April 24th) will be a link party where you can link up a post about how you used a new (and challenging) color in your home! I love a good challenge! Here's the list of lovely and brave Color My World challenge participants. Today we're all sharing the color we chose.

Curious what color I chose? Well, you might think I'm playing it kind of safe. Although, if you've been around here for any length of time you know that I'm a big fan of bold color.
I typically lean toward warm shades, so to get out of my comfort zone I've decided to give the very trendy color grey a try to see if maybe I could be an autumn and a winter.
While my son's walls are a very light shade of grey (pretty much a white with grey undertones) I haven't used that color anywhere else in my home, and I've never used a darker grey like the one I'm challenging myself to incorporate. So, once I chose my color I went to Pinterest, obviously, to search for some inspiration.

Now I feel like I can totally do this! I really love the way the cool tones of grey balance out the warm red, very similar to the way that shades of blue do. Something about grey with red just feels a little more modern even in a more traditional setting. Anyhow, I plan to add some grey in my entry foyer. Next Tuesday I'll be back with the results of the first challenge - incorporating grey in some home decor (either diy or buy). Okay - let's do this thing!
Is there a color you've never used in your home? I wonder what it is about certain colors that draws us in while others just don't really do anything for us? Like why do I love red so much? Red walls, red shoes, red handbags, red lipstick........I even wore red to my junior prom in high school. No -you don't get a picture. I don't want to scare you!

so excited to see what you do with one of my personal favorites! :)
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites too. I know you will rock the gray!
ReplyDeleteI so want to repaint my living areas gray! Can't wait to seewhatyou do with it!
ReplyDeleteGrey does complement red so well - so excited to see what you do with it!!
ReplyDeleteCarmel - can't wait to see how you bring in the grey. I know it will look great. What a fun challenge.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you joined the challenge, Carmel! That gray and red are going to look great together!
ReplyDeleteI think grey is going to go very well with your decor! I know you will have some fabulous additions!
ReplyDeleteGrey would be a challenge for me as well! I know it's very trendy, but I've never used it. Although my entry and upstairs hallway are all a very dark grey but I didn't it paint it so I can't claim responsibility. Can't wait to see how you used this color!
ReplyDeleteI love both grey and red! We have a red feature wall in our living room (love your red walls too! I'm actually thinking of biting the bullet and painting the whole room red!) and the walls of our dining room are a soft grey - they are connected to each other and I love the grey and red together. Can't wait to see what you do! Your house is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteoooh can't wait to see what you come up with! I know it's going to be fabulous. What a fun challenge and a great group of bloggers!

I almost chose gray. It was one of my maybes. I haven't put much in and thought it'd be fun to add to rooms. I can't wait to see what you do!
ReplyDeleteLove the mix in that last photo. I have used alot of gray but not with red...it looks fresh and modern.
ReplyDeleteGray and red are such a fun combo! I happen to be in love with my new gray bedroom (have you seen our makeover posts?) and nobody is more surprised about that than me :-). There are most certainly warm grays and cool grays, and like you I'm a warm color girl. So our bedroom is a wonderful warmish gray, and it is so soothing and sophisticated! Can't wait to see what you do with it Carmel!
ReplyDeleteCarmel, I'm so proud you are branching out from your red fetish! :) I think the red and gray are going to look amazing together!
ReplyDeleteMy problem is that I'm drawn to every color which makes decisions impossible. I love gray and I do like the play of the gray and red together. Looking forward to next week!
ReplyDeletewhat a fun challenge! i love gray because it really mixes well with just about anything - red is no exception! can't wait to see how you incorporate it. and hopefully i'll link up the final week (now to think of what color to challenge myself with!).
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a really fun blog challenge. Where do you find these? I'm inspired by gray a lot lately and almost painted my kitchen silver song by Benjamin Moore. It is a soft cool gray that looks wonderful with reds but equally good with deep blues and greens. I've never really used it before because in Chicago it can be so dreary in the winter -- you really need a lot of light or strong warm colors to offset it so it doesn't feel gloomy.
ReplyDeleteI'm obsessed with gray! I really love a neutral pallet that I can add color to in the form of accent pieces and art. Every time I talk about painting something gray is always a possibility and my husband cringes haha.
ReplyDeleteI too tend towards a warmer palette and have a hard time working gray into my house. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteooooh!! i love the gray WITH the red! can't wait to see how you incorporate it in your home over the next few weeks!! love your inspiration photos!!
ReplyDeleteOh gray, it makes me so happy! I really like how you paired it with red for inspiration! Are you sure we can't see that prom picture? ;) I have always loved gray and navy, in fact most of my wardrobe is black, gray and navy. Do you buy a lot of red clothing?
ReplyDeleteSounds like an exciting challenge- anything to do with color - look forward to see what amazing ideas you come up with, Carmel!
ReplyDeleteThey have some AWESOME new gray things at Target! I believe it was in the kitchen section (baskets and the cutest little cow creamer, just to name a few). You should check them out!!
