My boy had fun playing wii with grandpa. And he helped us build a raised box for our vegetable garden in addition to lots of other things I'll be showing you very soon!
It's always so hard to say goodbye even after almost 12 years of living apart. It never gets easier.
So, to help distract myself and hopefully lift my spirits I've devised a plan. I'm going to attempt to bake some horse cookies in honor of Derby Week for my daughter's class. They are learning a lot about the Derby this week. She even has Derby related homework! She has to write 3 sentences about the Derby. Is there something sweeter than kindergarten? Anyhow, hopefully the baking and decorating of some horse cookies will help to cheer me up. If nothing else I'll be on one heck of sugar high right?! Here's my inspiration.
If you want the 411 on gorgeous Derby hats be sure to head over to The 2 Seasons .

if those frosted horse cookies can't make you feel better, i don't know what will! ;) i know you how feel- when we lived in louisiana i always felt like that after my parents left.
ReplyDeleteHow awesome that your dad came for a visit and the kids had some time to hang with him!
ReplyDeleteYour horse cookies inspirations are so cute - and I always love baking for kids because they don't need things to look perfect! Perfect thing to do to pick up your spirits!
I know how you feel, my parents moved four hours away over six years ago and just got the call a few weeks ago that they will be moving to Tennessee which is 12 hours from us. So it will be four times a year visits since both my girls are in school and so busy. I miss them so much and cry like a baby when they leave and I am 42. :)
ReplyDeleteI love those cookies! I am assuming you live in or near Kentucky since your daughter is learning so much about the derby? Love it!
My family lives on the opposite coast so I know how you feel.
ReplyDeleteOn a separate note, those cookies are sooooo cute!
Oh friend! I was fighting tears reading this because I totally understand how you feel saying good-bye to family. :-( I always think it will get easier (all of mine live out of state) but it just doesn't especially seeing my kids with tears streaming down their faces. Ugh. But I think making cookies is just about the best distraction you could have...unless it's after 5pm and then it would be a cocktail! LOL!

Oh, sweet girl. So happy you had such a wonderful visit. Hang in there. Those cookies will be darling!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a wonderful visit, sad it's coming to an end for you. Sugar always helps, right? My parents live two states away and I'm sure eventually they will move even further away to a warmer climate so I'm preparing for that. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI love your home and blog!! Would you mind sharing info where your family room leather couch is from and the manufacturer?Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa! The couch is from Restoration Hardware. I can't remember the name but they don't sell it anymore ( I don't think). We got it during a sale about 5 years ago - maybe 6. They had already marked it down and then we got another 25% off for some furniture sale they were running. It is super comfy and is very well made. The distressed leather is so perfect for us - with 2 kids and 2 dogs. It's well loved - and still looks great!
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel! We have been away from home (Texas) for 10 years and I think about all the wonderful times our sons are missing with their grandparents. Sigh! But if anything some sweets will always help to put a smile on the face.
