It was pretty simple. I took it apart, spray painted the metal base gold (Rustoleum metallic gold), covered the table top with a throw rug I picked up at TJ Maxx for $16.99, put it back together, and called it done.
The fabric covered boxes (HomeGoods) fit perfectly underneath and are so great for added storage.
I literally just glued the brass pulls (Home Depot) to the fronts. Liquid Fusion glue is serious - works on everything - not kidding!
I love the texture, pattern, and color the rug adds to the table top.
Night Stand - Check!
It's taking me forever to finish her room, but I really am enjoying the process.
Are you old enough to have furniture you bought at Ikea 7 years ago? It's funny to see what was once a side table in our family room (3rd house - before my girl was born) is now a night stand in my daughter's room.
oh and if you missed it last week - here's the floral pleated lamp shade tutorial

Adorable! Girl, I love how FEARLESS you are!!! I bet your daughter loves it too.
ReplyDeleteHA! Thanks girlie! She does - she's mainly glad to see me actually getting things done in her room ;)
Deletethat is stunning! i love the gold paired with hot pink- awesome job!
ReplyDeleteDang it! Beautiful! Love the gold.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I love the color of the rug you used & the gold spray paint really makes that table look expensive.
ReplyDeleteSarah
That is just awesome! And thanks for the tip about Liquid Fusion- the pulls are a fantastic idea.
ReplyDeleteYes, so loving the tip on Liquid Fusion. Had not even heard of it. Darling.
ReplyDeleteYour pattern mix is the perfect sassy combination, and of course I love ANYTHING with gold!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I'm dating myself, but I have some Ikea pieces that are over 20 years old. I think your piece looks great, but I just wanted to point out that recently Little Green Notebook posted a tutorial on a clever way to do bench corners, just in case some of your readers are going to try this project. She had some techniques that I never would have thought of. I am new to your blog, but its now one of my faves!
ReplyDeleteYes, I saw that same post - so helpful for corners! Covering a square table with a rug = not so perfect corners but the rounded edge is probably safer ;) I'm actually currently working on covering a small ottoman and was planning to mention the LGN post when I finish.
DeleteSeriously, you and all your awesome DIYs! I need to quit throwing everything out I don't use...this is why I don't have more "projects"
ReplyDeleteThis is so adorable Carmel!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! All of your recent projects make me want to be a little girl again! Or just move into daughters room? How would you like another daughter in their mid-twenties?
ReplyDeleteok i am looking for info about how the rug was treated for those things that occur with little and big girls. also, will you need to vacuum it. we are in so. cal and really have dust issues so anything fabric gets feathers on it with just dusting. any suggestions I can think of some items that i already own that i could take advantage of. Good Good idea
ReplyDeleteI didn't treat the rug at all. I figure if it's supposed to be walked on it'll probably hold up pretty well on a table. I'll just use the upholstery attachment on my vacuum cleaner to keep it dust free.
DeleteIt looks great! I love the rug you used and her bedskirt is adorable!
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic!! So quick and easy too, well done:)
