when our painter friend came to paint the outside of our new front door, I also had him paint the inside.
After I painted the sliding doors in the family/living room black, I knew I wanted black on the interior of the front door. (used the same paint - SW All Surface Enamel in black satin) And now I'm completely sold on black doors. Apart from looks alone - they. don't. show. dirt! Angels SING!!!!!! No more grey grubbiness - you all know what I'm talking about right?
It makes the space feel more modern in a totally classic way, but the best part is - it's just paint. So, if the day comes when I no longer want to hide the dirt I can repaint it white.
And after sharing Jennifer's doors with you last Friday, I'm thinking I should paint (hide the dirt) on all our interior doors. Who wants to pick up a paint roller and help a girl out?
How do you feel about black interior doors? Are you a fan of dirt-hiding design ideas? I have both hands in the air - and I'm shaking my derriere. ;)
source info: The chevron rug is from Ballard Designs. It's an indoor/outdoor rug, and it doesn't show dirt either - holla!

LOOOOVE the black door!!! It looks so much more dramatic in there now!
ReplyDeleteYour door looks beautiful! I painted the inside of both of our exterior doors black at the last house and now here as well. It was one of my first projects here, I couldn't stand the dirty off white doors, yuck. I love the dramatic look of interior doors painted black as well but I'm just not sure I could do it. Maybe you should do it and then I'll be inspired to do it as well. ;) Your entryway is gorgeous, so bright and bold!
ReplyDeleteI am all about hiding dirt! The front door looks amazing. I think you should go for it and paint all the doors black. You help me wallpaper our office and I'll help you paint your doors. We could crank up some music, maybe drink a bottle of wine while we work! Oh, love the rug too.
ReplyDeleteI just painted my interior door black on Tuesday!! Love it so much better! :)
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh i love it!!! so classic, dramatic, stunning!!! it looks so grand!
ReplyDeleteCarmel, I *love* the black front door, both inside and out! I have been seeing more and more black doors lately, and I really like how they add a bit of interest to a home - especially in places where you don't expect to see them (like in your family room - they were one of my favorite features). And I'm all for anything that is dirt-hiding!
ReplyDeleteThe black door makes such a dramatic entry LOVE IT
ReplyDeleteactually in the process of the black door quest. just did a post on my garage entry door yesterday as a matter of fact;). and yes, the white door was gross and grubby from scuffs. all for dirt hiding design! plus, I just like black accents.
ReplyDeleteI love it and it totally flows with all the other black you have in your entryway!
ReplyDeleteI adore interior doors painted black! I almost did it to the doors in a rental property of ours because I am so sick of scrubbing down grubby white doors!! Go for it.
ReplyDeleteI DEFINITELY want to do this. My only question is, on the doors to bedrooms or closets do you paint the side of the door inside the room black as well? Or just the face of it?
ReplyDeleteLove the change and black door looks wonderful with dining room wallpaper.
ReplyDeleteCarmel, it's so dramatic and beautiful. The space looks fantastic. And the peek into the stenciled dining room is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI can barely concentrate on the gorgeous black doors because that vignette with the bench and the peak into your dining room has me smitten and ready to paint my house red! LOVE your classic, eclectic mix! I seriously forgot the question about the doors, but they're fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI'm not normally a black and red combo person, but that white trim, black door, red wall combo is to die for!
ReplyDeleteSo you realize I sit on my couch and stare at my front door every day now, trying to decide whether or not to go for it, right? The dirty little finger prints all over the white doors and trim makes me CRAZY!!! You may have sold me this time around.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. I LOVE it! I can't get over how fabulous the black is with the red walls. I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea but I adore bold colors.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I've actually been thinking of painting the door leading from our garage black... it's always SO dirty! Your front doors look fabulous, and I love the runner. Really classic and beautiful, like you said!
ReplyDeleteLove it! It's going to look fabulous when you do all the other doors too!
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic Carmel! Your entry/foyer area is so pretty!! Love all the natural light you get from your new door!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, even if I wasn't already totally sold on black doors being freakin' awesome...I am now completely making googley eyes at them after the don't show dirt revelation. I despise that gray smudgy stuff, this is genius! (c:
ReplyDeleteCarmel, the new door is fabulous. Love the black with your red and white.
ReplyDeleteI think the black doors look great in your house. But I am sure they wouldn't look good in every house - it depends on how much natural light the home gets, and the decorating style of the owners. And I'm not sure how black doors would affect resale which, at this stage of my life, is very important to me. My preference is for stained doors or white. Black in my house would make it seem closed in. Happy painting!!
ReplyDeleteThey look awesome! I so want to do this as soon as i get some free time!
ReplyDeleteI like that your trim is still white. Much easier to just paint the door rather than all the trim too. Might try this!!
ReplyDeletelooks amazing and so classy.. love it.. and your angels singing comment had me cracking up!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh. Just like the living room doors, it looks SO good! Bravo.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know I like black doors until you started posting about them - fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your black door! It really ties everything together perfectly.
ReplyDeleteOh Carmel! My jaw dropped when I saw these pictures! So gorgeous! Every single detail is perfect and your styling is fabulous. Love your little hanging daisy vase, the sconces, the rug...all of it! Totally should be a magazine shot!
ReplyDeleteLove this...i was inspired a few weeks ago to paint our new house front door black! so great to see it in your home!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love your black doors! You have me inspired and have me thinking about doing the same with mine! Thank you
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I'm sold! Once I get through Christmas, I'm painting my doors black!
