The Unplanned Life

Well, hello from sunny San Diego!  Yes, I'm straight chillin' on the West Coast.  You all know I'm from California right?  I grew up just north of Orange County.  Anyhow, my hub won a trip to San Diego through his company and it included spouses - woot!

I have to tell you I had a blog schedule for posts this week and well, it went completely out the window.  Packing and preparing for this trip kind of got the best of me and my well planned plans for this little blog of mine.  You see, this is an adults only trip.  I had to leave my babies behind in Kentucky.  They are well taken care of staying with family, but I just about had a breakdown in the airport.  I don't think I've ever been so flipping nervous and anxious in my life!  I almost backed out completely.  SO many thoughts crossed my mind.  I've never been this far away from them and it really freaked me out to leave them.  I felt very out of control having to leave them and allow someone else to care for them.

I got through.  I made it here.  They are absolutely fine.  They're better than fine.  They're having the time of their life "sleeping over" on a school night!  ;)  They don't miss me or my hub.  They barely even want to talk to us on the phone.

I prayed a little prayer before I boarded the plane.  I asked Big Daddy (I'm on a nickname basis with God - we're totally tight like that) to give me peace - to help me learn I don't always have to be in control - to help me to trust that He's got my back because deep down underneath the anxiety I know He does.

And guess what?  I'm actually enjoying myself!  I miss my munchkins like crazy but spending time with just my hub has been really fun.  We have regular date nights, but there is something totally different about spending more than a few hours alone together.

So, try not to hate me while I'm sailing on a boat today  - I promise not to wear my nautical themed pashmina afghan - (name that song).

I'll be back next week with some real posts.  For now, and for the next few days I'm allowing myself to live the unplanned life - and forcing myself to enjoy it!

Here's a peek at what's coming next week  -

I got bored packing and decided to dress my table for fall.  I'll show you the whole shabang next week!

  2. Enjoy every minute! I read in my devotional the other day that the best thing we can do for our kids is to stop worrying about them (bc it does nothing!) and to turn them over to God when they aren't in our care. I think Big Daddy can handle it :)

  10. Enjoy! You deserve it...guilt-free! My hubs won a trip to Hawaii last spring (I'm in NY) I cried the whole plane ride then I realized..I'm allowed to let go and have fun! My kids had way too much fun and barely wanted to get on the phone, too- that means they are in good hands!! Enjoy this precious time because when you come back it will be mom-business as usual!

  11. awww! Have fun! We love San Diego- my hubby went to San Diego State and we always say one day we would like to retire there. And I can totally relate to leaving the babies behind but they always end of having more fun than ever and you'll wonder why you never did this earlier.
