I finished her bookcases and
brought in some fun art and a sparkly lampshade.

And one side of her closet got turned into a play kitchen area.
The room still isn't done but, seriously, is it ever?
I also changed my mind on one of the goals. I had originally planned to set up a little desk area for myself in the guest bedroom but instead decided to carve out a workspace in my own bedroom.
Using this desk as a nightstand was the perfect solution. I'm also really excited to have a dedicated guest room since my dad is now retired and typically stays for at least a couple weeks when he comes to visit.
Thinking about making home goals this year kind of gives me a headache, stresses me out and sucks the fun out of decorating. Last year I remember feeling a little overwhelmed at all the things I wanted to accomplish on the home front. I made the mistake of making those things a priority over working out, eating healthy, and making time for me. This year I want to take a more balanced approach. So I've decided to make just one home goal this year.
Let Creativity Guide Me
That's my goal and my plan on the home front this year. While I do want to and would love to renovate our bathrooms, I plan to wait until the creative mood strikes before I do anything. I've learned that I think more clearly and more creatively when there's no specific agenda. And that's how I want my home to look - like it all came together effortlessly, creatively, without any real plan.
What's your plan on the home front this year? Are you making lists and goals? Or are you letting the creative winds blow you from project to project?

I love it all! xo Kristin
ReplyDeleteWow, I love that little kitchen area, a little girl's dream! And I adore the deep blue color on the walls of your bedroom, stunning! I've got many goals for this year, tune in to see how they shape up. :) Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteSince I'm a relatively new follower I had never seen her bookcases or kitchen area. PRECIOUS!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Sheaffer :)
I'm such a list person so I do have one...but it just helps me stay organized more than pressures me! I'm with you that a good balance among everything is the most important thing :) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great plan. Love all of the photos you posted. Your dark master bedroom is beautiful.
ReplyDelete*love* the lampshade! - well i'm FINALLY getting curb appeal - can't wait for spring to get my landscaping done! - inside i'd LOVE to do something with my upstairs bedrooms - i've done NADDA!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower and I just love everything about your house. We moved about 3 years ago from a house that we built ourselves and have just now started renovating our current house. For some reason, Thanksgiving and Christmas seemed like the perfect time to get new hardwoods, new carpet in our bedroom and both sets of stairs (after replacing the treads on the main staircase), and having a "buffet" built into the room that has now become our lounge. On top of that I am repainting almost everything (myself). Needless to say I'm a bit overwhelmed and ready to put a few of these projects behind me. I like your idea of slowing down and letting creativity guide me!
ReplyDeleteI need some simple Valentine decorations in my house and I love the painted canvas with the XOXO! Cute! My kids have huge walk in closets, and I love the kitchen idea... but, oh, I so need that room for storage for all their games, toys, etc.! My daughter would love that, tho!
ReplyDeleteI always have a general idea of what I'd like to get done, but I bounce around like crazy from project to project. I'll always remember Martha Stewart's response one day when someone asked her how she does everything...she said "Well, if I don't feel like sewing one day, I bake. If I don't feel like yard work, I craft." (paraphrased) I like that, and I think your goal is a great one! We can't wait to see where that creativity leads you!
ReplyDeleteSo true Carmen, thinking of it all is stressful and takes the fun (creativity) away. I try to set goals but you never know what's going to happen around here. Great post!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great goal Carmel! I've been thinking of goals for our house since Christmas and I'm starting to feel a tad overwhelmed. There are so many things I want to do! From building a desk for our office, to painting the living room and the dining room, and I think the biggest of them all is making curtains for 3 of our rooms. These are all such time consuming and expensive projects haha!
ReplyDeleteI like it! Great approach. Since I really didn't tackle my list from last year, but ended up doing a bunch of other things, I'm doing the same. The list just makes me feel like I "failed". So this year, I'm looking at things month to month and what makes sense. My goal this year is savor/cherish/embrace. Looking to enjoy the moments, cliche, maybe, but it is what matters, right. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeletePerfect goal for this year!! Can I borrow it? ;-) You did A TON last year girl and I'm so with you that when we write it all down and the list keeps getting longer and longer it can make us want to quit before we've even started. I'm liking your approach a lot better!
ReplyDeleteVanessa
i love that and am kind of doing he same thing this year- i didn't make any home goals because i just want to work on wherever the spirit moves me and let the creativity run its course. :) bummer about the horse, by the way!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI never tire of seeing your beautiful bedroom. Your approach to this year sounds right on for you! May your creativity flow!
ReplyDeleteI really like your blog. Is so friendly and has a lot of interesting ideas. :)
ReplyDeleteEverything just looks amazing. I especially love her bookshelves. I'm a LOVER of making lists, so I'll end up doing resolutions for the house again this year. But, I'm definitely not going to be strict about it. You're so right about doing things only when creativity strikes. Makes everything more interesting :)
ReplyDeleteKeep this going please, great job!

I am definitely making goals but at the same time, I know that everything I want to do isn't going to get done at the same time all in the same day. I just set goals so I have something to look forward to accomplishing. Making our house our "home" is something the Hubs and I are both really excited about. =]
ReplyDeleteYour daughter's room is just darling, and I especially like that cute play kitchen in her closet -- very clever! Great idea to combine a small desk and bedside table into one well-functioning piece of furniture -- looks great!
ReplyDeleteSeems like that way works perfectly for you! Can't wait to see what you come up with!
ReplyDeleteTY for sharing your house and your goals!
ReplyDeleteMy plans remain as they've been for several years now: to clean-out everything I have in the storage facility - however, there are now two problems w/ that, one of time, one of space: the time factor is that I don't want to keep paying for storage! so - hurry up, dammit! ; the space factor is that I can't even think of fitting the furniture I want to save, into where I'm living now - so ...???
