This
recessed light conversion kit from Lowe's is awesome!
As you know I've been running around
like a crazy person trying to prepare my basement to host a game day party this Saturday. I've been wanting to add a drum shade pendant over the pub table (we bought at Kroger of all places!) for quite some time. I picked this conversion kit up at Lowe's and had
a hanging drum shade up in less than 5 minutes!
BEFORE
AFTER
It literally took all of 5 minutes. All you do is unscrew the light bulb, and then screw the converter into the socket. The best part about this kit is that you can use any harp lamp shade. The shades are sold separately so you can choose whatever style you want. I chose this burlap shade (also from Lowe's), but I may add some ribbon trim later since this burlap sort of blends into the wall color. I might also paint the chairs, but who knows when I'll get around to doing either of those projects?! I mean, it took me almost 6 months to do a project that only took 5 minutes.
Have you ever used one of these converter kits before? Aren't they so awesome?!
I haven't used them, but I am constantly checking them out. I love yours. Maybe I should try a few over my kitchen island!
ReplyDeleteWow! That made a huge difference! Ten points to you!
ReplyDeleteBam! That is one of the coolest creations ever. Now I just need pot lights in the right spot, and of course none of mine are :(
ReplyDeleteI used these to convert 2 lights over my kitchen table. Seriously brilliant solution...and sooo quick and easy!
ReplyDeleteEasy change with huge impact. Love it.
ReplyDeleteI saw those at Lowe's the other day and it made me wish I had recessed lights somewhere just so i could try one! Yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteLove how it looks! You are powering through these projects!!! You should have more parties - but then all your projects would be done and you'd have to start on House #6!
ReplyDeleteCarmel - I was so excited to see this post. The hubby and I were just discussing changing out our recessed lighting to pendant lights. I had no idea these kits even existed. I will definitely check them out.
ReplyDeleteNice job ! love how it turnd out :)
ReplyDeleteWe have looked at the kits. This makes me want to reconsider. I like it!
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't, but I am going to after reading this post! I have been wanting to add something over my bathtub and this is so perfect because there is a recessed light there. I never thought it could be so simple!
ReplyDeleteHey would you mind sharing which blog platform you're working with? I'm planning to
ReplyDeletestart my own blog soon but I'm having a hard time making a decision between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I'm looking
for something completely unique. P.
S Sorry for being off-topic but I had to ask!

I usually do not leave a response, but after reading through a ton of comments on this page "Converting A Recessed Light to a Hanging Drum Shade".
ReplyDeleteI actually do have a couple of questions for you if you tend not to mind.
Is it just me or do a few of the comments come across as if they are left by brain dead individuals?
:-P And, if you are writing on additional places, I'd like to follow you. Could you post a list of every one of your public pages like your linkedin profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?

Your light looks fabulous -- I love it when you bring my attention to something I didn't know existed. Now where to put one!?
ReplyDeleteI have seen conversion kits in the Ballard Designs catalog. When we built our house six years ago I like the idea of recessed lights because it's a clean look. Wah-wah. Now I wish I had some chic-er chandeliers or pendants in more rooms. When I first spotted the conversion kits I scoured my house for places I could use them. Since my recessed lights are down the sides of the rooms instead of the middle, unfortunately none of the spots will work. Boo!
