Design Idea: Painting Furniture The Same Color As Your Walls

This image has been at the front of my mind for quite some time.

I mean seriously, the red wall had me at hello.  But what really stuck out for me the first time I saw this image was the red dresser against the red wall.  I love the modern touch it adds!

If it were up to me, I'd paint this dresser in my living room the same red as my walls, like yesterday.

But this piece is a family heirloom - on my hubs side - and he's against painting it - and I totally respect that  - if it had belonged to my grandmother I wouldn't want to paint it either.

While I respect that he doesn't want me to touch this dresser with a paint brush, I still want to slap some red paint on a piece of furniture against the walls in this room.

Ummmm, wine bar, I'm looking at you kid.

Though that might mean changing the knobs.

Or not.  I could always go for a full tone on tone look.  I don't know.  I haven't really decided for sure.  Right now I'm just thinking........but we all know where that leads.  Painting this piece red could solve the issue I mentioned here too.  Hmmmm......lots to think about.

What do you think about the idea of painting furniture the same color as the walls?  Jenny just did it with grey, and the results are fantabulous!

Want to know what color red is on my walls? - check this post here.

  1. i love the idea! i think it looks really cool and can't wait to see!

  2. I have some family pieces that will never see a paint I understand where your hubs is coming from.

  3. I think that is a great idea, Carmel :)Love that first Jamie Meares image! Totally something that would look great in your home! xo Kristin

  4. Absolutely! It looks just like you! :)

  5. I agree with the hubs on that heirloom piece-even though I too would feel the itch to paint it-but would hate to regret it later on. But that bar cart is fair game I say!! and I think it needs some sexy antique brass hardware! or what about lucite & brass??? or something like this:

  6. The wine bar is perfect! Do it! And I agree, brass hardware would look amazing.

  7. Few so glad you didn't paint that piece. The wine bar is totally fair game. Can't wait to see what you do.

  8. I never would have thought to do that, but your inspiration photo is absolutely stunning! I say go for it with the wine bar! I so love your bold style, Carmel! Have a great week!

  9. I love the red on red idea. I think would look lovely in your space. I also think it would be neat to add fabric with the same red hue with small gold details to the back of the open shelves in the wine bar. And then adding gold knobs. I know how much you love gold :). But whatever you do, I know it will look beautiful. I can't wait to see what you do

  10. Though I love the finish of your wine rack, It could be kinda fun. Never tried it before. Maybe that's my problem!

  11. I love the tone on tone and I'm sure it would look great in your home.

  12. Carmel,
I just recently found your blog and I love it! I look forward to each new posting, so thank you.
I like the idea of painting furniture the same color of the walls but it is something that is better for others, not me.
I have to ask though, where did you get the lamps with the wine corks in them? I have developed quite a collection of corks, and would love to use that idea if I could find the right lamps!

  13. Oh I have a feeling that since you posted may already be painted:)

  14. Love the red on red, but not on that gorgeous dresser. The wine bar would look totally cool though! Can't wait to see what you decide.

  15. Love the red on red, but not on that gorgeous dresser. The wine bar would look totally cool though! Can't wait to see what you decide.

  16. I love the look! Red is my favorite color and I love the way you use it in your home! I say "Go For It!"

  17. Guuuuurrrl, you almost gave me a heart attack. I thought this story was gonna end with that beautiful dresser being painted and I was probably gonna shed a tear or two.

*Sighs with relief*. LOVE the idea of painting the wine bar though. Can't wait to see the after!

  18. Wall painting in tour house and office is often considered as the most important task that helps a homeowner to make the wall look just perfect and elegant. You have shared nice information regarding it. Thanks!
