I make a list of house goals every year. Mostly because it helps me to focus. Although I will probably veer off track as creativity sometimes pulls me in different directions, but the list really does help to keep me in check.
How I Did Last Year
Last year I had 7 projects on my list, and I’m happy to report 5 out of the 7 were completed!
As a reminder here’s how this room looked on move-in day two and a half years ago. Painting the ceiling black really did make this room appear so much larger!
My home office was one project that seemed to drag on forever, but I finally finished just in time for the holidays! And it is such a happy space to work in!
While I made some headway in our master bedroom, taking the walls from builder beige to Sherwin Williams Amazing Grey, there really is so much more to be done in this space before I can officially call it “done”. So our bedroom will be a priority in 2018 for sure! We’ve been in this house for what will be 3 years in July, so it really is time for mom and dad to have a nice room to relax in at the end of the day.
And I totally failed to do anything with my closet last year, so that will also be a project on my 2018 house goals list.
The Big 5 for 2018
So what I’m envisioning for 2018 is…..
1. Finally Finishing Our Master Bedroom
And on a side personal note, I’d really love to be one of those people that gets up and makes their bed first thing in the morning. Ever since we moved into this house I just haven’t prioritized this one daily task, and I just feel so much better when I make my bed. Is it just me? Or does walking into a bedroom with a made bed just make you feel more put together?
2. Master Bathroom
These pictures were both taken from the MLS listing of the house, but we have honestly not done a thing to our bathroom. It’s kind of embarrassing that I haven’t even painted or hung any art on the walls, but I just haven’t been inspired. And I didn’t want to invest in decorating when I’m not crazy about the bones. I’ve never liked all the beige tile in here. It’s not necessarily offensive, it’s just basic. And it screams builder. So I’d really love to ditch this tile for something custom but classic.
The vanities will stay but the lighting, faucets and hardware will be replaced. I’m really excited about this project!
3. His and Hers Closets
We already have separate closets, but I’m considering replacing the traditional doors with barn-style doors to make better use of the space. Barn doors would make it so that all four walls of the closet could be used for storage rather than the wall behind the door being dead space. And I would also love to ditch the wire shelving!
Don’t let this picture fool you. This was taken a year ago, and my closet has since imploded. I’m going to start with a good purge!
4. Boy’s Bathroom
Our teenage son has his own very small bathroom that could use some design love……and probably a deep cleaning. 😉 I haven’t taken a single photo of this space in all the time that we’ve lived here, and considering that I’m a design blogger that should tell you something. 😉
5. Girl’s Bedroom Refresh
Last but definitely not least, my middle school daughter has requested a bedroom refresh. Watching her brother and I give his room a makeover this year created a bit of a domino effect. And she’s requested something a little bit “moodier”. That’s her word not mine. 😉 So I’ll be making a few small, but fun changes in her room this year. And thanks to a really great Black Friday deal I scored I’ve already gotten a jump start and can’t wait to show you how things are coming along.
So that’s my 2018 plan for the house! Do you set house goals each year? I find that it helps me to better prioritize my time and expenses. Plus it really does help to keep me focused!
