A Simple Thanksgiving Table Setting

Hello friends and happy Tuesday!  Today I’m joining a few of my favorite decor bloggers in a Thanksgiving Table Setting Tour organized by Tammy of Pink Peppermint Design.  If you’re hosting your family’s feast this year, I hope you find some table setting ideas that will help to make your turkey day extra special!  And if you’re only showing up in your fancy stretchy pants to gobble this year, maybe you can use some of these ideas for your next dinner party.  😉   Either way I hope you enjoy checking out all these pretty tables as I think a beautiful tablescape makes the food taste even better!

I’d like to give a warm welcome to everyone coming over from the previous stop on this tour over at Hymes and Verses!  Like Doreen, I love me some plaid around the holidays!

Plaid and Leopard Table Setting

I love pattern mixing in my home decor!  So I’m sure it comes as no surprise that I like playing with patterns when setting a table.  Plaid and leopard make for such a fun combination around the holidays, and I especially like that it doesn’t feel overly specific to Thanksgiving.  So you can easily reinterpret this combo for Christmas simply by subbing the cotton stems and fall florals for evergreen, magnolia leaves and berries.

This plaid runner is just a yard in a half of fabric I picked up at Hobby Lobby, inexpensive and easy.  Plus I really dig the casual look of the unfinished edges.  You really don’t have to have a lot of fancy table linens to set a holiday table.  I’ve been known to use scarves and even throw blankets as runners/table cloths.

Trifle Bowl Centerpiece

I often use my trifle bowl as a vase for a table centerpiece, so when I spotted this gorgeous mercury glass vase at HomeGoods recently I couldn’t get it into my cart fast enough!  It’s the same shape as a trifle dish and just so beautiful!

Table Setting Tips For Easy Entertaining

1.  Thanksgiving is a lot of work in the kitchen no matter if you’re in charge of cooking every dish or if you’re hosting potluck style. So while I love a pretty table, I like to keep things as simple and stress-free as possible.  I typically set my table a day or two before hosting any kind of dinner party.  That way on the day of the event the table is already checked off my to-do list.

2.  If floral arranging isn’t your strong suit, one simple way to get a more interesting look is to use a variety of flowers all in the same color.  Mix large blooms with medium and small florals to get a lot of great texture in your arrangement without having to think too hard about where/how to place each stem.

3.  Candlelight makes everything more beautiful, cozy and welcoming.  Just be sure to use only unscented candles on a dining table.  And to keep your candles from tipping over put a little melted wax in the bottom of your candle holder before placing your candle sticks.

  • The last photo, with you and the sunshine coming through the window, is stunning.
I love plaid with leopard too. Beautiful table setting!

  • Thanks so much Lisa! The sun shines through that window so beautifully in the late afternoon just before sunset. It’s my favorite time of day! 🙂

  • Thanks Laura! A trifle bowl is the perfect height to keep the arrangement from blocking conversation. This was such a fun HomeGoods find!

  • I found out I am unexpectedly hosting Thanksgiving becauseof my in-law’s health issues. We are in a tiny rental house with no real dining table. I had ordered some folding tables and chairs for our group of 11. I’m totally picking up some of that plaid fabric to drape over the ugly tables. The trifle bowl with the rust alstroemeria will also be making an appearance. And candles are easy! Thanks for the great ideas. It will certainly help make our last-minute arrangements easier and nicer!
