I finally made up my mind and chose a color for the walls in our master bedroom. I can’t thank you all enough for sharing your opinions! You are the best sounding board ever! I think Sherwin Williams Amazing Grey was almost the unanimous winner, but there were a few votes for white walls. Some of you even thought the builder beige was the way to go. But in the end I sided with the majority, and my husband 😉 (his opinion matters right?) and chose to go grey.
How Did I Decide?
Rather than thinking about what I want the room to “look” like, I did what I actually tell my clients to do. I sat down and really thought about what I want our bedroom to “feel” like. And when making a list of words to describe the feeling I was after, it became abundantly clear that grey would be the best choice to drive that home.
Cozy, Relaxing, Calm
I don’t think white would have been as calming or relaxing. For me, white walls feel fresh and energetic. Clean and bright, but not really calm or relaxing. Not for me anyway. And the builder beige while cozy, just didn’t make the room feel relaxing. In my mind cool colors do that more so than warm tones.
Contrast & Balance
With so many other warm tones in this space between the rugs, chairs and wood furniture I also felt that going with a grey color on the walls would bring in some much needed contrast. Balancing the warm tones with some cool would make the bedroom feel much more calming and relaxing. The grey wall color also had the effect of bringing out more of the brown rather than the red undertones in the furniture. Grey added in a more modern vibe to the space, and I big time love the way the mirror stands out now.
There is still much to be done in this room. The current pillow situation on the bed is not final. These are just stand-ins for now. Curtains are next on my list, then a bench for the foot of the bed……and accessories…….and……..it never ends really. 😉
For now I’m just loving the view when I walk in to our bedroom. And I like how the grey balances the blush and keeps the room from feeling overly sweet.
This beautiful artwork really takes center stage now, and I can’t wait to get her up on the wall! More design progress coming sooner rather than later I hope!
