Hey friends! Apologies for the radio silence here on the blog last week. Those of you who follow along on Instagram and Facebook know that my family just got back from Italy. It was an amazing trip! And I can’t deny that I’m majorly struggling to get back to reality this week. But life and laundry waits for no one…….unfortunately. 😉
I can’t wait to share a trip recap with you all! But first, I need to do a quick One Room Challenge update. I had the best of intentions and wanted to share my design plan for my girl’s bathroom last Thursday, but in the scramble to get everything done before we left for our trip that blog post sat unchecked on my to-do list. The truth is though, I’m still in the works of finalizing a few of the details. But in the essence of what the challenge is all about I figured sharing a quick update of the jumping off point for the design plan would be better than waiting until I have all the details finalized. Plus, as you’ll see in Thursday’s post, I’m hoping to get your input on a few of the design decisions! More on that coming in a couple days.
The Fun & Colorful Plan
Janet Hill is a favorite artist of mine. I love the whimsy of her work! The Mermaid Inn and Crocodile Jumper prints are the inspiration for the design plan. With this bathroom being a jack-in-jill that my girl shares with guests when they stay with us I like that these prints play off of the colors in both the guest bedroom and my girl’s room. They’re not overly juvenile, but they definitely feel fun for an eleven year old girl’s bathroom.
My plan is to paint the walls white and paint the vanity an aqua blue. Though it’s hard to see in this before picture, one thing that has always bugged me about this bathroom is that the white of the vanity doesn’t match the “white” trim. Our trim work is not a bright white, and up against the super bright white of the vanity it always looks dingy…..not a great, clean look for a bathroom. I think painting the vanity a fun, happy aqua will bring in a cool, coastal vibe while solving the non-matching white issue.
I have plans to frame out the mirror and make a few other cosmetic changes with lighting and hardware…….more on that coming Thursday!
While I’d love to change the tile floor in here, that’s not in the budget at the moment……Italy kind of drained the fun money. 😉 But speaking of our amazing trip, I am planning to have a canvas print made of this photo to hang in the bathroom. The colors fit in perfectly. And all the colorful scooters we saw were one of my girl’s favorite parts of the trip.
I’ve got lots of painting in my near future………that and laundry……ugh, why is laundry such a beast after a vacation?!
