Today I’m excited to be participating in a Summer Home Tour organized by Marty at A Stroll Thru Life! If you’re popping in from the last stop over at 21 Rosemary Lane, welcome to Our Fifth House…..where we’re actually now living in house number six (we moved in last July)!
(You can take a front porch tour here.)
I’m Carmel and I’ve been sharing simple decorating ideas, diy projects, furniture steals, stylish finds, healthy recipes and life as it unfolds from my little corner of the blogosphere since 2010. You can get to know me a little better here. My summer decorating mantra is “keep it simple”. Since I just finished giving our screened porch a makeover I thought today would be the perfect time to share the reveal! (You can check out the before pictures and the inspiration images here.)

(rug, rocking chairs, fire table)
The blue ceiling is probably my favorite thing about this makeover. It really accents both the height of the space as well as the beadboard. I love how it brought the whole space to life.
It’s always the little details that make a space feel cozy and give it some personality. This red arrow marquee light lived in my son’s room at our last house, but it is a fun addition to our porch here. I made this hook rack with a leftover piece of moulding and some brass horse hooks I’ve had for years.
It can get a little tricky selecting the right furniture for outdoor spaces. Pieces are often sold in sets which have a tendency to make outdoor living areas feel a little too contrived or sterile. To keep things interesting I opted to do a little mixing and matching, bringing in a sectional with two rocking chairs. I married the seating together with coordinating throw pillows. I also brought in some accent tables utilizing baskets and boxes to add interest and functionality.
(red and blue pillow, navy and white pillow, plant stand, white planter)
(pillows – HomeGoods)
The fire table is another favorite part. It’s so nice to be able to come out here and roast a marshmallow with just the push of a button. And I imagine in cooler weather we’ll really enjoy the heat from the fire as well. *(FYI – The manufacturer of this table does not recommend placing this fire table on a rug or on a screened porch. I would never leave the fire burning unattended.)
(blue ceramic lantern, urchin planter, picnic basket – vintage)
To make the best use of the space, I divided this porch into three zones. The conversation area……
the serving/entertaining/bar cart area……..
and last but not least, the small dining area or what my hub has been referring to as “the cafe”.

I’m so glad to have our screened porch makeover done in time to enjoy this summer! I can’t wait to curl up with a book in this chair!
Thanks so much for stopping by today! The next stop of this Summer Tour of Homes is over at Decorating Delirium!
